Business Profile

In 2011, Joe Dickson, the owner of Dickson Printing, recalled his special mentor: In the early 50's Joe's father, Lou Dickson, was the original hands-on founder and publisher-owner of the Ajax Advertiser, the local newspaper. It was there and only then Joe Dickson learned that the written word not only speaks volumes, but can provide the base for business success. As a teenager, in 1959, a young Joe Dickson founded DXN Printing, (and subsequently became Dickson Printing Ltd.), their current business place at 220 Harwood Avenue South, Ajax.

During the 70's and the 80's the company prospered. So much so it outgrew it's home and underwent a name change. In the late 80's, Dickson Printing moved to larger quarters on Westney Road South. A few years later, Joe Dickson sold this business to the Brown and Collet Corporation. To everyone's surprise, shortly after buying Joe's business, the 77-year-old Toronto Corporation filed for bankruptcy. The turn of events meant Joe Dickson was back in the printing business. He quickly reassembled some of his equipment, rehired 12 members of his old staff and, once again, the "OPEN" sign hung on the Dickson business door. Dickson Printing not only rose to the challenge, but has kept up with ever changing technology.

Today fully automated, Dickson Printing is able to produce 90% of the goods sold on site at their Ajax business location.

"Having our own digital graphic division, as well as Xerox Digital equipment; in addition to state of the art offset printing equipment on site and a skilled graphics and art design department, gives our company full control of goods produced. Combined with our own bindery, Dickson's has all of the tools to produce a better product, up to 40 inches, with faster turnaround at a more competitive price," says Dickson.

The firm expanded in the fall of 2000 and in 2003, doubling its size with the latest digital graphic and press equipment. Our digital equipment has been upgraded again in 2006 and larger print equipment up to 6 colour 40" at a 2nd location. Both the graphic department with a new Xerox Docucolour digital unit, and the plant with an additional offset press continue to expand.

Joe's election as the MPP for the Ajax-Pickering riding has seen renewed changes to continue the business growth, and allow Joe more time to help residents.

Two long-standing Staff have been promoted, and assume the major roles in the Company. Paul Dickson is promoted to General Manager, and Lynne Parker is promoted to Sales Manager.  Jonathan Hartley oversees the onsite graphic design art department, with both PC and Mac.
